Skin care is a booming business in itself, where myth and rumour or marketing hype compete and mislead prospective skincare regimens through many misunderstandings. So it would be an ambitious undertaking in learning such a general understanding will only set aside once realising most can do worse damage instead.
#1 More Exfoliation Means Better Skin
One of the worst myths in skincare is that the more aggressive the exfoliation, the better the results. Though exfoliation is important to remove dead skin cells and help regenerate new cells, over-exfoliating severely damages your skin barrier. This can lead to increased sensitivity, redness, and even breakouts. Instead, stick to exfoliating 2-3 times per week, and always listen to your skin's needs.
#2 Natural Always Means Better
The "all-natural" skincare movement has convinced many that synthetic ingredients are harmful while natural ingredients are inherently safe. This is a very dangerous oversimplification. Poison ivy is natural, but you wouldn't want it in your face cream. On the other hand, many safe and effective skincare ingredients are synthesised in labs. Really, what matters most is each ingredient's safety and efficacy-not its origin.
#3 Pricey Products are More Effective
Price is not always tantamount to quality as far as skin matters are concerned. Most of the active ingredients in the most expensive products are no different from those of cheap products. The prices mainly refer to packaging, marketing, and placing the brand rather than formulation. Some of the most effective skincare products come at drugstore prices.
#4 You Don't Need Sunscreen on Cloudy Days
This is a whole myth that perpetuates the causes of premature aging and skin damage. UV rays pass through clouds, window panes, and even the clothes on one's body. UVA rays exist throughout the year, age your skin, and have been thought by researchers to play a major role in causing skin cancer. The application of sunscreen daily is uncompromising, for whatever the weather or season it might be. Essentially, it is recommended that you wear sunscreen when the UV rating is 3 or more.
#5 Oily Skin Doesn't Need Moisturiser
Many people with oily skin skip moisturiser, believing it will make their skin more oily. In reality, depriving your skin of moisture can cause it to produce even more oil to compensate. The key is finding the right lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser that provides hydration without feeling heavy or greasy.
Empowering you to prioritise self-care daily.
